Payment Terms
These terms explain exactly how money moves on the Khula network: what a payer is charged, what a recipient receives, and what happens when something goes wrong.

1. Paying someone
Tapping a Khula card or scanning its QR code opens a secure payment page. You choose the amount, enter an email address for your receipt, and complete the payment on our payment partner's hosted checkout.
No account, app or signup is required to pay. Card details are entered on the payment partner's page and are never seen or stored by Khula.
2. Amounts and currency
All payments are in South African Rand (ZAR). Minimum and maximum amounts apply per transaction and are enforced at checkout.
The total you will be charged, including any payer-side fee, is displayed before you confirm.
3. Fees
A Khula service fee and a processing cost recovery are applied to each successful payment. Depending on the recipient's configuration, these may be carried by the payer, the recipient, or split between them.
Every fee is calculated and stored at the moment of the transaction, so the recipient's statement always reflects the exact amounts applied.
4. Confirmation
A payment is only final once our payment partner confirms it to us. A page that has not yet confirmed shows as pending; do not repeat the payment while it is pending, as this may result in a double charge.
5. Settlement to recipients
Confirmed payments, net of fees, are settled to the recipient's nominated bank account according to the settlement cycle of our payment partner. Verification requirements must be met before the first settlement is released.
6. Refunds
Payments to a person are generally final. Where a refund is warranted — for example a clear duplicate or an obvious error — contact support with your reference number. Refunds are made to the original card and may take several business days.
Fees on a refunded transaction may not be recoverable.
7. Chargebacks and disputes
If a payer disputes a payment with their bank, the disputed amount may be reversed from the recipient, together with any charge levied by the payment partner. We will notify the recipient and give them a reasonable opportunity to respond with evidence.
8. Fraud controls
We monitor for unusual activity and may hold, decline or reverse a transaction where fraud is suspected. Recipients may be asked for additional verification before settlement resumes.
